The pharmacy called today to tell me how much the injections are going to be. Phew, I was not expecting it to be so much! We are looking at about $4,500 for all injections for the retrieval part of IVF. Insurance won't touch anything IVF related so it is all out of pocket.
I have some AMAZING friends who have walked this path of IVF as well. They have sent me their leftover medications that they didn't need. It is saving us over $2,000!!!!! This is such a HUGE blessing to us! I'm incredibly grateful these sweet women are expecting babies and the medications worked for them and they are passing them along to me!
We also found out about a program called Compassionate Care. It's a discount card you apply for that you can use on certain fertility medications. It is circumstance based and usually takes several weeks to be approved. I called in and spoke with a kind young lady who fast tracked our application! We were approved the same day! Initially the program approved us for a 50% off card. We submitted some extra paperwork regarding our circumstances and they approved us for 75% off certain medications!
All in all, we have paid around $400 for all of the medications we need for the retrieval part! This is an amazing savings for us!!!! If you are on the path of IVF PLEASE look into Compassionate Care! It is a wonderful program that helps with the costs!!!
The medications arrived today and I have to say it's a bit overwhelming to think I have to mix/prep all of these and inject several daily. It looks like so much and it's only a little over half of what I'll be using prior to the retrieval surgery. Just taking it one day at a time though, I'm sure at the end I'll think why was I so worried?!
